Attack the Block film review.

After watching the sci-fi thriller of joe cornish after hearing mixed reviews, i found the film fun and exiting, however, the concept of it being frightening didnt phase me, i saw it as more of a "teen adventure" pulsing with rowdy energy. Yet this film does make you jump in parts. I dont think the aliens were very creative, they just appeared as a ball of fluff with glow in the dark teeth which has connotations of child toys etc,. this may have beeen where peoples expectations of the film had dropped. The actors all seemed confident and worked together really well. I felt as if the mugging incident didnt work well, i think some viewers and perhaps the younger generation would gain mixed messages from the scene, suggesting that mugging would be beneficial and not that it would get you into allot of trouble. I also thought that the way the Police were portrayed at the beggining of the film wasnt representing them as they should have been, as in an "authority" firgure, they were displayed as more of a gimic or push over and didnt expect to see them eaten by the aliens. On the other hand, it began to explain how the gang perhaps see the police and what they think of them, maybe the police are just a push over and interfere?
This film may not do so well in countries such as America where it has a limited release as the English humour may not come acrross to the Americans. amplifies the authentic feeling of the urban world the film is set in, while keeping the necessary tension pulsing throughout the proceedings. Definitely one of those soundtracks you want to keep bobbing your head to, long after the credits roll.
The special effects in this low budget movie ( an estimated £8.000.000) have worked brilliantly, the aliens being less creative has saved the producers huge amounts of money and keeps them looking menacing and mysterious.
Over all i think this is a great film with a good story line exploring into the youths and gangs and allowing a different perspective on them.
